The Hiker Mama

Tolmie State Park

Distance: There are 3 miles of trails in the park

Elevation Gain: Up to 230 feet

Season: Year-round (though the park has reduced hours in the winter; check their website)

Maps: Print out a map from the State Parks website

Description: A nearly level short, trail leads out to the beach, or take the 2-mile trail through the forest. You’ll enjoy mature forest, tangy salt breeze, birds, flowers, and lots of moss. Streams and wetlands provide interest as you wind through the forest. Boardwalks help keep your feet dry through the muddiest portions, but during rainy seasons, you’ll still encounter lots of mud (wear waterproof boots and gaiters!) When you’re done with your hike, you can play or have a picnic at the beach!

Directions: From I-5, take the exit 111 and head north on Marvin Rd. Travel straight through the many roundabouts. When you reach the T at 56th Ave NE, turn right. That road curve to the left, and then curves around again and enters the park. You’ll need your Discover Pass to park. There are restrooms with flush toilets and running water. There is a freshwater shower at the beach area.
