The Hiker Mama

Nooksack Falls

Distance: Very short, less than 1/8 mile

Elevation Gain: Negligible

Season: Year-round.

Description: This short trail makes a nice leg-stretching stop on the way up to Heather Meadows. It’s a quick walk down from the parking area to the fenced off cliff. You’ll be viewing the 88-foot waterfall from the top; there is no access to the base of the falls. Read the sign at the trailhead kiosk that chronicles the number of people who have died trying to find their way down the cliffs; enjoy the falls from behind the safety of the fence.

There are no restrooms or other services at the trailhead; but you won’t need any parking permits.

Directions: From I-5 in Bellingham, take Hwy 542 east to Maple Falls. Continue east from Maple Falls and the Glacier Ranger Station for 7 miles to Road 33, signed for Nooksack Falls. Drive this gravel road 2/3 mile, where you will find a parking area on the left just before a bridge. Park there and do not cross the bridge.
